The sections on career preparation include strategies for writing resumes, filling in application forms, compiling career portfolios and conduct at interviews. The authors also cover topics such as punctuality and appropriate behavior in the workplace itself.
This practical teaching resource is packed with lesson plans, implementation procedures, interactive activities and photocopiable worksheets, and the course can be taught over one year or three years.

This book provides teachers and parents with a detailed and clearly set out plan to complete in order to ensure that a student with an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) is as well prepared for job opportunities (ASD) is as well prepared for job opportunities as they can possibly be. This book is easily read, easily understood and easily applied and a great new resource that is a must for those involved in preparing our students with ASD for the adult world.
This book was designed as an instructional tool that can be used by teachers and parents who work with people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. It presents a work experience curriculum geared towards equipping the person with ASD with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for successful employment. It provides helpful strategies for teaching specific skills, as well as discussion points for topics such as goal setting and responding appropriately to praise and criticism. The eight chapters of the book are sequenced in a systematic logical way. The reproducible worksheets, checklists and charts are clear and well set out. Useful resources, such as books and websites, are identified at the end of the book.
Dealing with the barriers to employment for young disabled people shows how important career planning is. Lundine and Smith provide a work experience curriculum for students with autistic spectrum disorders and offer a range of topics for discussion and work, including self-awareness, decision-making and career awareness. Each chapter provides the basis for a logical scheme of work with suggestions for activities and photocopiable resources. There is also guidance on supporting students to construct a portfolio of their work experience... this is a good pack which covers more than just compiling a CV and writing a covering letter.
A solid set of group and class activities aimed at helping those who suffer from ASD, and incorporating practical work-related and self-awareness issues.
