‘Can you come round?’ Dad says tremulously.
‘Of course. Are you OK? Is it Mum?’
‘No!’ He almost shouts it. ‘Just come quickly. The garden…the…body… we need you, Penny.’
For women of Penny’s generation, being on hand for elderly parents is just part of life. But for Penny, things have become a little more serious…
When she receives a frantic phone call from her parents one night, with express instructions NOT to call the police, Penny rushes over at once. But they haven’t had a fall. They haven’t forgotten their computer passwords. They’ve killed someone. And his body is lying in the garden, right next to the rose bushes.
Everyone is capable of murder. They just need to meet the right person.

Dark, funny and fresh! A thriller that will get under your skin and stay there!
Absolutely genius - a dark and delicious comedy about dead bodies, aging parents and precious rose gardens
PRAISE FOR A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY:
PRAISE FOR LAURA MARSHALL:
A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY is a darkly hilarious and acutely observed thriller about a middle-aged woman and the lengths she goes to protect her family. It is terrifying, but not in the way you might think, largely because it forces us to recognise that if placed in similar circumstances, we'd probably do exactly the same thing! Another brilliant novel from the murderously funny mind of Laura Marshall
A darkly funny and compulsive tale of loyalty, love and doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY kept me reading all night. I loved Penny and her family and laughed and gasped in equal measure as they juggled with the consequences of various very bad choices, desperate for all of them to get their happy ending
This book is an absolute joy. Gripping, funny, and brilliantly plotted, it deserves to be a smash hit
If you thought there were limits to what you'd do for your loved ones, this book will make you think again. With deep, dark humour and wonderfully conjured characters you'll be smirking with every page you fly through as the truth is finally revealed; we'll all do what it takes in the right circumstances. Gripping and ingenious!
One of the most engaging thrillers I've read in a while. The brilliant characterisation and inspired plot had me gripped until the last page - and what a final twist! Darkly comic and scarily unsettling in equal turn, A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY deserves every plaudit
I raced through A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY and loved every minute. It's dark and funny, creepy and surprising. Laura Marshall leads the reader down the garden path and back again in a wonderfully engaging and unpredictable way. I think she's got a hit on her hands
I always drop everything to read a new Laura Marshall and this may be my favourite yet. Right from the heart-in-mouth opening through to the brilliant conclusion, I was absolutely glued to it. I absolutely loved the setup, with the insidious, charming new tenant and Penny's hapless parents - who turn the tables. Sissy warrants a series of her own. Absolute 5* read!
Funny, tense and insightful, Laura Marshall has once again written a psychological thriller for our times . . . With vivid characters and a compelling plot, this had me turning the pages until the wee hours - I loved it
Laura Marshall has taken a dark scenario involving elderly parents that most people will identify with and combined it with such brilliant humour that I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. A fresh and very funny thriller. I loved it
A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY shocks and grips from the very first page . . . You'll never look at a flowerbed in the same way again. I loved it!
A tense, twisty, one-sitting read
Such a clever and thrilling read
Only the need to sleep stopped me reading it in one sitting. Such a page-turner with no let-up in pace!
A compelling plot interlaced with a growing unease I couldn't shake off - so clever!
Superb
A pacy, twisty page-turner
Gripping . . . the pages actually turned themselves
A name to watch!
A gripping, multi-layered story. Clever and nuanced
Clever, pacy and compelling
A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY is an absolutely unputdownable riot of a read which had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. A book that will make you laugh, wince and cry in equal measure, be prepared to be shocked and surprised with every turn of the page. I absolutely loved it!
Murder shouldn't be pleasing but Penny and her parents are an utter delight. I raced through A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE A BODY. It's laugh out loud funny, touching and so full of character it's practically singing. Loved it from start to finish
A fun read with some dark humour and plenty of surprises and one which many members of the 'sandwich generation' will relate to
A hugely enjoyable thriller. Funny and dark, with characters you'll love. Laura Marshall has excelled herself!
A great page-turner with plenty of humour too! Look out for it in July
I finished this absolute belter of a book today. Fresh, funny, and tender - and full of razor-sharp observations. Characters you totally root for, and a baddie you could never tire of punching
Darkly funny, intensely well observed on family dynamics, it is a cracking take on the 'squeezed' generation. I felt very much seen and I hope this becomes a series of books for TV! Richard Osman watch out!
One of those books that stays with you long after you've finished turning the pages. A gripping, relatable and absorbing read
Dark, funny and extremely satisfying - I loved this book
