The introduction to the book and each chapter have been very helpful to a novice poetry reader like myself, and the inclusion of poems in their original language alongside the English translations are an added bonus for anyone interested in languages and the art of translation. The range of cultures, eras and attitudes to love is impressive and whether dipping in for a single poem or reading whole sections at a time it is a delight.

Tackling the ever popular and emotional topic of the love, the poems are exquisitely composed and a joy to read and reflect on.

Praise for Chris’ McCabe’s anthologies:

If you’re interested in languages and poetry you’ll love this book. It’s a perfect mix of the original poetry with translation and commentary – very insightful as to the cultures of the languages featured. One of those books that should be much more publicised and valued that you feel lucky to find.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review

This is a wonderful anthology. To realise that many of the poems’ languages will soon have no native speakers and thus their world in all its richness and diversity is lost for ever, is just awful. If Extinction Rebellion is important to you, buy the book and act now!
