Carrie Bloxson promoted to Senior Vice President of Culture and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

15 April, 2024 – David Shelley, CEO of Hachette Book Group (HBG) and Hachette UK (HUK), announced today the promotion of Carrie Bloxson to SVP Culture and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Bloxson will bring her experience and leadership as HBG’s VP Chief Diversity Officer to an expanded role encompassing Hachette Book Group and Hachette UK.

Since joining HBG in February 2021, Bloxson has led the business’ commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, and increasing representation in HBG’s leadership, workplaces, and publishing programs. Now, in this newly created role, she will drive Hachette’s Changing the Story initiative across the UK and the US, to further strengthen the company’s mission to make it easy for everyone to discover new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment, and opportunity.

David Shelley, CEO of Hachette Book Group and Hachette UK, said: “Carrie’s leadership in DEI is unparalleled, and her strategic vision and empathy have made an enormous impact at Hachette Book Group. Over the past three years she has spearheaded remarkable progress, fostering an environment of trust and engagement across our company. Her expanded role reflects our commitment to leveraging expertise and best practices between the US and UK and advancing our Changing the Story pillar, the aim of which is for our publishing and our organization to mirror the diversity of the readers we serve. At a time when DEI efforts are receding in many industries, Carrie’s elevation underscores our unwavering dedication to this work.”

Carrie Bloxson said: “Being appointed as the Senior Vice President of Culture and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is both an honour and a profound responsibility. This role is a testament to HBG and Hachette UK’s dedication to making DEI a central pillar of our corporate ethos.  Since joining HBG, I have been continually inspired by the commitment of our teams to embrace and champion DEI values, and I am excited to further this journey across our UK and US organization, reinforcing our mission to Changing the Story and amplifying voices that need to be heard. I am committed to positive change that not only enhances our workplace but also enriches the literary landscape with diverse voices and perspectives.”

Nick Davies and Sharmaine Lovegrove, HUK’s Patrons of Changing the Story, said: We are proud that Hachette continues to take action to deliver on ambitions for Changing the Story and, having someone as experienced and visionary as Carrie working across the UK and US, enables us to increase our impact and accelerate the change we want to see in our people, our publishing and our partnerships.”

In the UK, Bloxson will work with Kim Kidd, Hachette UK’s Diversity and Inclusion Manager and collaborate closely with senior leadership, Communications, and HR teams in the US and UK to execute Hachette’s comprehensive DEI strategy, Changing the Story. Together, they will continue to nurture cultural initiatives and infuse DEI principles into all facets of the businesses, which is underscored by Hachette’s collective belief that a diverse and inclusive workforce and publishing landscape are essential in reaching and resonating with all readers and consumers.

Bloxson’s new role starts immediately, reporting to David Shelley, CEO of Hachette Book Group (HBG) and Hachette UK (HUK).
