Oliver Malcolm appointed Managing Director of Hodder & Stoughton

Hachette UK has appointed Oliver Malcolm as Managing Director of Hodder & Stoughton. Reporting into Katie Espiner, CEO of Hodder & Stoughton and Orion, Malcolm will be based at Hachette UK’s London office and will join the Hachette UK board. He will take up the role in spring 2023.

Currently ExecuMve Publisher at HarperCollins, Malcolm oversees HarperNonFicMon, Avon and HarperNorth, which he founded in 2020.


Malcolm started his career at GlaxoSmithKline before moving into publishing in 2006, joining Random House as a Key Account Manager, where he set up the original Tesco Book Club. In 2010 he joined HarperCollins as Divisional Sales Director for FicMon, before moving into the roles of Publishing Strategy Director and then ExecuMve Publisher in 2019. In 2020, Avon won Imprint of the Year at the British Book Awards.

As Executive Publisher, Malcolm has personally acquired and published a string of non-fiction bestsellers, including Sunday Times number one bestsellers Not a Diet Book by James Smith, Wake Up by Piers Morgan and Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty, which was also the Audiobook of the Year at the 2020 British Book Awards.
